How to Obtain These Documents
1. If You Use HMRC’s Online Self-Assessment
If you file your tax return via an HMRC self-assessment online account, you can download both documents directly.
How to Access Your SA302 Tax Assessment
- Log in to your HMRC online account.
- Click ‘Self-Assessment’ (if you are only registered for Self-Assessment, you will be automatically directed).
- Select ‘View Your Tax Return’.
- Click ‘Tax Return Options’.
- Choose the relevant tax year from the drop-down menu and click ‘Go’.
- Click ‘View Return’.
- Select ‘View Calculation’.
- Click ‘View and Print Your Calculation’.
- At the bottom of the page, select ‘Print Your Full Calculation’.
- Repeat for any previous years needed.
How to Access Your Tax Overview
- Log in to your HMRC online account.
- Click ‘Self-Assessment’.
- Select ‘Self-Assessment Overview’.
- Click ‘View Account’.
- Select ‘Tax Years’.
- Choose the relevant tax year and click ‘Go’.

2. If You Use Commercial Software
- You can download your SA302 Tax Assessment directly from the software.
- However, Tax Overviews must still be obtained from your HMRC self-assessment account (see steps above).
3. If You File by Post
- HMRC will automatically send your SA302 Tax Assessment by post.
- To request a Tax Year Overview, call HMRC at 0300 200 3310 with your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) and National Insurance Number (NI).
